How’s Your Lent Going?
Lent is a time to repent - to change our minds and whole direction in return to God. The disciplines of lent include self-examination, prayer, fasting, sacrificial giving and works of love. On Ash Wednesday, I invited you to consider those things in you that need to die that you are keeping alive, perhaps things like; the cutting words you use for those you love the most (including yourself), the expectations and judgments you place on others (or yourself), the assumptions that we make, those sins, temptations and evils - big or small - that we allow ourselves to be complicit with. I invited you to mark them down somewhere so that you can be daily reminded of those things that need to die, and then to imagine and wonder at the new life that God might resurrect in their place. Imagine the compassion, self-worth and love that might fill those empty places!
It is not too late - if you haven’t already started, give this a try. Whether this is day 1 or day 17 of your Lenten journey, may God bless you and raise you each day. Trust that you are filled with God’s Spirit who will give you grace to love yourself and your neighbour.
In Christ, Pastor Aaron
