Pastor’s Message Sept 7, 2021
Thank you all sincerely for the gift of vacation. We all need rest. We all need Sabbath. It is indeed a privilege to turn off email and the news for a while and allow the world to turn, oblivious to what is happening around us.
I often think of vacation like the Transfiguration of Jesus, and I’m like Peter: enjoying the hike to the mountain top and not wanting to leave. Yet Jesus calls Peter (and me) down the mountain into the valley. God is there. God’s people are there. The needs are great in the valley.
We continue forward into another pandemic valley; a fourth wave that plagues the unvaccinated and continues to leave many weary and uncertain. We had hoped for a triumphant return to our sanctuary last week. In the words of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, “You can’t always get what you want.” I’m not sure anyone wants the fourth wave. Yet we trust that God will be at work in our midst; whether our worship is Scenic Acres or in cyber space and living rooms. We will have to wait a little longer for a reopening as our building remains closed, yet Christ’s Church never closes. May we follow Jesus into this extended valley; eager to love and serve, and with our God’s leading and providing through this valley, may you “find you get what you need.”
In Christ, Pastor Aaron
