Advent Lutheran Church welcomes Pastor Kayko Driedger Hesslein as our Interim Pastor.

Pastor Kayko has been a pastor in the ELCIC for 15 years. She was born and raised in Calgary, but received her M. Div from the Lutheran Theological Seminary of Philadelphia Lutheran Theological Seminary and served her first call at Emmanuel Lutheran in Toronto. She received her PhD in Systematic Theology from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California, where she learned to love the wider church and raw vegetarian cuisine.

She has taught theology at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary, Waterloo Lutheran Seminary, and the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Saskatoon. Most recently, she served as the interim pastor at St. John Lutheran Church, Calgary. Pastor Kayko loves the combination of being in the congregation and the seminary. She has written for Canada Lutheran and Eternity for Today, as well as contributing to Congregational Study Guides on Orders of Ministry and on Medical Assistance in Dying. She also serves on the Executive of the Calgary Interfaith Council.

Pastor Kayko lives in Calgary with her spouse, Josh, and their two children, Akira and Hiro. Her children attend church with her, as well as being members of Calgary’s Jewish Reform synagogue, Temple B’Nai Tikvah with their father.
